The 4th edition of IndiaFOSS was organized by FOSS United at NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru from 7th to 8th, September 2024. OpenDataKerala setup a booth at IndiaFOSS for sharing the community projects and also attracting young talents for contributing to these projects. OpenDataKerala volunteers including Naveen Francis, Jaisen Nedumpala, Ark Arjun, Ranjith Siji, Athul R T, Athul Raj, Jothish Babu explained visitors about the different projects hosted by the community harnessing the power of platforms like Wikimedia and OpenStreetMap.
Wikimania is the annual international conference of the Wikimedia movement, where contributors, editors, developers, and supporters of Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and others come together. It serves as a platform for community members to discuss and share ideas about free knowledge, open data, and the future of Wikimedia projects. The 19th edition of Wikimania took place in Katowice, Poland, from August 7th to 10th. This year’s event was a collaborative effort between the Wikimedians of the Central and Eastern European region and the Wikimedia Foundation.
Asramam ground in the heart of Kollam city is famous for its biodiversity as well as cultural heritage. In 1920s, it was used as an airport during British rule. There were a lot of improvements came in past few years and many of them weren’t mapped properly.
As part of 20th birthday of OpenStreetMap, OSM and Wikimedia communities have arranged a mapathon and photowalk to map and document the Asramam maidan and its surroundings including Adventure Park.
Kole wetlands, which lies between Thrissur and Ponnani is one of the important Ramsar sites in India which also exists between central Asian Flyway of migratory birds. It is necessary to conserve and develop this wetlands by giving atmost importance.
In accordance with 20th anniversary of OpenStreetMap, an event is conducting at Puzhakkal library, Muthuvara, Thrissur at 10.00 am, which aims to conduct a public review and consulation process for Thrissur - Ponnani Kole Wetlands, through an open mapping initiative.
A Stakeholders’ Workshop was organized by Open Government Data (OGD) Platform India on 26th July 2024 at the Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Naveen Francis, representing OpenDataKerala participated in the workshop . He also delivered a talk on OpenStreetMap India and activities of OpenDataKerala and how it helped to develop an opendata eco system in Kerala.

I received a letter from the Secretary, State Election Commission, Kerala, on 22/06/2024, inviting me to a workshop scheduled to be conducted on 29th June at the headquarters of SEC, in Thiruvananthapuram. The letter stated that, The State Election Commission has decided to go ahead with digital mapping of constituencies and wards of all the LSGIs of the state. In order to carry out the activity at field level, it has been decided to conduct a one day workshop and to finalize its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
A roundtable discussion on the “Open Data Ecosystem in India” was held on January 5, 2023, from 2:15 PM to 3:30 PM at the AC 8 Boardroom, ISB Hyderabad Campus. The event was powered by the India Data Portal and aimed to bridge the gap between research and practice in public policy dialogues.

I too came to know about the Nipah epidemic 2021 outbreak at Chathamangalam for the first time from the news media, like everyone else.
I was on quarantine and medication at home, being a panchayat secretary without any official charges now because I tested positive with Covid19 along with all of my family members.
I have seen the first proceedings related to this, issued by the district collector as the chairman of the district disaster management authority, in the WhatsApp group of local authority secretaries on 05/09/2021.
